~He went to Italy, he went to Spain, he went to the Canaries, he went to England, he went to Ireland, he went to Iceland and he went to Portugal. He tried to go to Japan and Asia proper, but he never made it. Hey, what can I say? The answer makes a lot more sense than the question and it is accurate to boot.

The idea of the Earth as the globe just appeared in that time. And Columbus was really possessed with it, cause he decided that it was really possible to reach India going not The East but the West. And may be it would not as dangerous as it'd been. He came with this plan to the Spanish queen and king, and they allowed Columbus to find it out and gave him money and ships.
So, originaly Colombus thought of going to India and not of finding the new part of the world.

Possibly what the teacher wanted you to point out is WHERE Columbus actually landed in the Americas, and his landing place was not on the mainland. Reread your textbook!

He landed in both Cuba and Puerto Rico. Of course he was under the assumption he was in India and had found a new trade route to the east.

Well, as far as I know, he went back to Spain after he discovered America. I never heard or read that he went anywhere else.
Traveling was not easy then, no planes, the ships were very clumsy, no trains, no cars
