YES!!!
Just like too much Carbon Dioxide will kill anything out of the water. Watch your levels and make sure your mix is right if it is a fish and planted aquarium.

i wouldnt worry about your water contaning to much carbon dioxide. if your aquarium is over stocked enough to deplete oxygen levels, you have far greater things to worry about.

the gas transfer form the water to the air will usually keep CO2 low and O2 high, or at least at proper levels. if your fish dont seem to be resperating normally, increase the surface agitation of the water by using a powerhead or other water movement device ( like a powerfilter )

Yes.

Fish breathe oxygen just like people do, only it's disolved in the water, not in the air.

Eventually, carbon dioxide is deadly.

Actually it can kill fish a couple of different ways,CO2 saturated water might not contain enough Oxygen ,and prolonged CO2 containing water may become too acidic. (carbonic acid)
