I was watching that I love New York show on VH1 (yes I am embarrased) and I couldn't believe what I saw. There was a little man (dwarf) on it trying to get New York to pick him, and her mom acted like a complete bigot towards him and said that she would never allow her daughter to be with him. Later, she said something like " I am sorry but that's my first reaction, and I have to go with it".

In my opinion, New York's mom sounded just like any racist would when criticizing her because of the color of her skin. The only difference is that VH1 would have the decency to not have a main character in a show be a racist, yet it is OK for one to discriminate against a guy because he happened to be short.

Why is it still OK to be an outright bigot to someone simply because they are short? Why do tv shows and movies still think its perfectly acceptable to exploit and make fun of small people who are born the way they are just like someone of any skin color?

not a "midget", I'm 5'11" actually, I just happen to think they are one of the few remaining groups of people of whom it is entirely acceptable to poke fun

Hmmm..! That's a challenging question. For TV shows it has been OK for little people to even make the most of a medical handicap in mostly comedy, but other film as well. I don't think it helps them, if others draw attention to their difference, which they are probably trying not to focus on, to live as much a normal a life as others, as possible.

Being small is a generic medical condition. Perhaps it would be something like a quadraplegic, or a paraplegic, finding as normal a life as they can, and acceptance from others, without making too much of their difference.

Those matters are a whole lot different to racial predjudice, as skin color is not a medical condition. To Ms Williams, you have a sweet heart, and you say things that my old mama would say, she is 76. But my papa would say, the issues which you've mentioned should be used as a springboard for change, no matter what.

God Bless you all here .... :)

Young people i don't like racism either. I am a 66 year old black female raised in the south. BUT let me tell you something. It is real and well alive in this country. Don't fool yourself under any circumstances. I am so upset at this moment just reading all of today's news about the nooses and Jena six. I Will make many people angry by saying Michael Bell bought this on himself. He just have to learn that trouble is easy to get into and hard to get out of it. His parents and all of the other black parents should have taught their children that the white race don't care any thing about a black . And the thing to do is just be nice, polite and if they are working for them give them an honest days work and leave them there. But all of them want to become football and basketball stars. Then become fools with money. The next thing they do is get a white woman. I am pitched off to see what has happened to the black race. The whites are just being true to their heritage. I blame the black family breakdown for today's events and nobody else. We were taught to respect, Work honest and let the others stay where they were. But no that did not happen. Now look at the mess we have. Racism is here and it is here to stay. You may think you are not a raciest. But let one of us do something you don't approve of and watch how quickly your heart you thought you knew will change. These little white formed towns have more of their children going nuts shooting up the schools. I sometime wonder if God is trying to get them to take a look at themselves.

No I do not like racism. Although, I was raised in the deep South my parents taught us from an early age, that all men were created equal and color was never an issue within our family.

Racism for what ever the reason is not of God.

The world has become a chaotic place to live in.
The only thing one can do is their part and cope
with the situation, but they also can be kind to other
humans. That part is lacking from a lot of people
and that part will never be complete, that is why
it is a sad thing to live in this world today.

You are so right, but people do that but i dont think it is the same as racism. Racism is more like, you hate the person because he is black or latino or maybe white, that you have probably never liked due to no particular reason.
I think for little people, it is a little bit different because usually with little people, the mothers are usually embarassed, of , if other people are going to laugh at their daughters or if her relationship is going to be normal with a little person.
I think they're totally good people. They're little but they have bigger hearts than any of the other normal morons.
