Surely someone has catalogued common errors and symptoms particular to manufacturers. What I mean is, is there a program that you can type in the manufactorer, product, and browse symptoms, then find causes?
How does Geek Squad do their diagnostic work?

Well since no one has given you an answer, I guess I will give it a shot. I know of no one master program that can just diagnose anything that easily, there are dozens and dozens of diagnostic program, but none of them solve everything.
As for Geek Squad, the term we used to use was "Gorilla with an armload of parts" meaning just keep switching parts in and out until the problem goes away. Same idea if its a software problem, just keep throwing stuff at it until it works. Geek Squad, despite what they would like you to believe, are don't have nearly as much expertise as they claim.
