I'm sick off all these people B*TCHING about war.
war is a human factor, we always have had war, & from the looks of things we always will HAVE WAR!
& don't complain to me that THIS war is not justified. few, if ANY wars are truly justified. & the UNITED STATES AMERICA is a warring nation, so there will ALWAYS be a "conflict" for us to send troops out to die for.
my heart goes out to the families & friends of loved ones who have paid the ultimate price, but i realize that they were doing what they signed up for. people die, people get injured, & people are traumatized from war, ALWAYS.
so i ask you, when is war NOT hell?

CopperChopper, yes. that is why Gen. Sherman is quoted as saying war is hell.
though, admittidly, he was talking about the overrated glory of it, i am refering it with the under estimation of wars terrors.

BOOMER, yes. when there are those who live for such violence, then it is good. but most of humanity is no longer like that.

Deep-D, aside from your "Z"s instead of "S", i agree with what you say. people will ALWAYS HATE OTHER PEOPLE, & until that stops, if it ever can, we will continue to have war.

Dear Carlos, 1st off, the NAZI's idea of nordic mythology is even more flawed than the KKKs view of christianity. on your second point, all i can say is "touche". a great point.

Bram, war is only limited to humans because humanity, for whatever reason, has evolved to the point of building greater weopons than sticks & stones, also to the point of getting a multitude of fellow beings to fight thier fight with/for them.

Interesting. I thought Odinists had died out with the Third Reich. That belief system took Germany far, didn't it?
Anyway I think it sad that your idea of Heaven resembles a VFW banquet. As for Hell: since Odinists consign cowards to Hell, I infer it must be rather peaceful there.
Therefore, war is NOT hell when one accepts your cosmology.

People "b*tch" about war because it's a vile experience and we as humans have the power to eliminate it. But men like to keep attacking each other....so we're a long way from it. But if you want to accept that such tragedy is a natural part of being human..then go right ahead. And remember that next time you are in the middle of a war being shot at or bombed. have fun.

Huh? War is justified as a human condition. It might be unpleasant, but it is not hell. It is a natural act.
There are many good things that happen as a result to war. The people who survived the holocaust would agree with me, I think. Medicine and technology leap ahead, economies tend to advance, and here is an awareness of the dicotomy of man that occurs. So, no, War is not hell. It can be an alternative to it.

I would argue whether war is natural to humans...but there is no getting past the fact that war is exclusive to humans.
Imagine, of all the lifeforms, we are the only ones who feel insecure enough to wage war...whether it be on our fellow humans or other lifeforms.
This, coincidentally, leads to the only time I can think we may not 'see' the hellish nature of war...and that is when our immune systems react and wipe out foreign microbes. Note however that our immune systems do NOT destroy all foreign microbes (this only happens when we intervene with things like antibiotics a.k.a. smart-bombs).
Nature knows better than to engage in war...it wipes out diversity which endangers LIFE itself. However long man may have waged war, it pales in comparison to the millenia nature has embraced peace.
Peace is natural...war isn't "hell" it's only human.
DP: Hmm...would you not say lions have the ability and power (superior weapons) to wage war, for example, against hyenas?... yet while they may kill a few of the leading members of a pack...they NEVER attempt to wipe them out entirely... they never deem them undeserving of existence...even though they are direct competitors. Humans would not be so tolerant.

When it's old men who weaseled their way out of service in their youth who are sending today's young men out to fight to protect and increase the old men's money. It might be hell for the young men, but it's all good to the weasels.

War is not hell when no one is shooting at you, and by shooting I mean any activity that would damage one.
There are many things about war that are enjoyable. That is why Patton said, "God help me. I do love it so."
