1980 Golden State Warriors trade Robert Parish and a #3 pick (who turned out to be Kevin McHale) to Boston for a #1 and #13 pick (who turned out to be Joe Barry Carroll and Rickey Brown).
So Boston gets Parish and McHale who won a championship in their first season with Boston (and 3 championships overall). Between the two of them they had 16 All Star selections and twice McHale won Sixth Man of the Year.
GSW gets Joe Barry Carrol and Rickey Brown. No championships. Between the two of them 1 All Star selection. No Sixth Man of the Year for either.
This was an incredibly lopsided deal.

When did NBA history start? 1990?
I think that the worst trade in NBA history was when the St. Louis Hawks traded Bill Russell to the Celtics for two of the Celtics better starters.
The St. Louis Hawks (now the Atlanta Hawks) got 1 NBA championship out of that trade with the addition of two very good Celtics starters to their already great lineup.
The Celtics got 11 NBA championship out of that trade.
I would trade 1 NBA championship and two starters for 11 NBA championships and Bill Russell any day of the week.
Initially, it was a good trade for both teams after two years, but in the long run, the St. Louis Hawks missed out on the services of Bill Russell for an entire career.
Give Red Auerbach credit for trading two of his established stars for an untested rookie on that trade.
I stand to be corrected, but I don't know about a prior comment about Jabbar for Gilmore as Gilmore played in the ABA through 1976 while Jabbar played his first 5 years in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks.being traded in 1975 while Gilmore was still playing in the ABA. Because of that trade Milwaukee remained one of the better teams in the NBA in spite of comments early that the trade did not work out for Milwaukee.

Well I think one of the worst was the no-name the Bulls traded to Seattle to acquire Scottie Pippen. Of course at the time Scottie did not show signs of being a legend, and MICHAEL JORDAN helped mentor him into a great player. But a terrific trade nonetheless.

I think it's the one where Lakers got Kareem from Milwaukee for Gilmore and couple of other players. The Lakers could not win the championship til Magic got there, but they sure couldn't win without Kareem either. Meanwhile, Milwaukee was stuck near the bottom of the league for years.

It would have been when they wanted to trade Dirk and Kobe...I would just stop watching basketball if that happens. I love Dirk, and I like Kobe, but I just dont see them exchanging teams. Besides that, Shaq should have stayed in LA
