Don't worry about it. It sounds a lot louder to you because you are in an enclosed space. And besides, we all have to do it at some point, so we are all used to hearing the sound. Nobody will think twice about the sound, if they even hear it at all.

I had the same problem recently and used a simple technique that takes about 2 minutes of work. Remove the hinge pin and very slightly bend it in the middle, put it back in the door and test. Bend it a little more if the door still closes. To bend the pin, I put it in a vise and hit it with my hammer. If you don't have a vise, you'll have to figure out some other way to bend it, but you'll still probably have to use a hammer.

Use tampons with plastic wrapping (like OB) instead of the paper ones like Tampax. Much quieter to open...plus you don't have to worry about that cardboard throw-away.

Sometimes, I flush the toilet while I am opening my pad, so the noise can't be heard. Other times, I can care less if it is heard or not. It is a woman's bathroom, and it's something us women have to go through. So, ultimately, its nothing to be embarrased about. Hope I helped a bit :)

They have some pads that are wrapped in like cloth instead of plastic. They don't make such a loud crinkly noises. Other than that, maybe you can just "cough" when you're opening it, and then open it real quick.

You could always pre-open them and put them in a clean ziplock. You could also open them very slowly. People get their periods sooner or later, people are going to figure you have it by the time your 13 or 14, no use hiding it.

Kotex pads come rapped in cloth instead of plastic. I would try them.

I remember that being something I was uncomfortable with when I was younger, so when I was at the point that I had to open the noisy package or rip off the adhesive, I would flush the toilet at the same time. Worked for me.

Try Pearl tampons.
They have a plasticy wrapper, so they're not as noisy as other brands.
