It happened to me once in a crowded elevator around Christmas time at a mall. We just stood there for like 15 minutes until the lights and power came back on. I since then am scared to ride an elevator!

Hang out. There's not much else to do! I like elevators just fine, so I wouldn't freak out or anything. Maybe call the emergency line just to let them know that there's someone in the elevator, then settle down and wait for the problem to be fixed and be glad that I have a good excuse to be late to wherever I was going.

That's actually happened to me.
I was with my cousin in a really nice hotel and we were the only ones on the elevator and all of sudden it just crashed and the power went off. It was super scary and we were both freakin' out. Eventually it started back up and guess who was standing there when the doors opened? The hotel manager. How funny. I told him a thing or two...

Phone your friends or parents from your cell phone and tell them you are stuck in the elevator and they need to inform the authorities.Cause you never know how long it may take before the power supply is resumed. Get help at the earliest. You could run out of oxygen supply.

lol to what people are answering to this question... well exactly if u like anyone in there with u talk to them but if u had a cell phone i would try and call someone even the cops b/c they can send the fire department to try and get u out if the doors are stuck but if u dont' have a cell phone then ask others if they do and if you are stuck in the elevator alone then try and call to people to see if they can go for help

At first I'd be scared and surprised, then I'd be like "Ahh, crap..." and then probably try and call someone if I had my cellphone with me, or just wait in the dark elevator and talk to anyone inside until help came or power was restored.

Hope that there was no one else in there with me. 30 seconds of awkward elevator conversation is bad enough, I'm not about to suffer through 3 hours worth!

I would hit that little button that informs the fire dept that the elevator has malfunctioned, then sit and wait to be let out.
