It is a year old and i cleaned it with compressed air - i use it daily for school and i have not found a connection with the beep. The beep is not from the speakers but sounds like it comes from the computer itself - it uses microsoft XP

I have muted all the sound and it still makes the beep - it does it maybe once an hour or sometimes more - how do i shut off the internal sound?

try taking out the battery then putting it back in.

if this doesn't work then:

the problem might also be that u r due to get a new battery.

this happened to my macbook, even though urs is a toshiba this might help. just check ur laptop up at Frys or someother place like that. if u don't have insurance probably sending it back to toshiba will cost more money than taking it to Frys.

Check your battery on the inside some computers when that battery gets low it will beep, VERY annoying, it's a thing called a system speaker, which on the inside of your laptop, have someone replace it like a computer specialist, doesn't take long, and you should ONLY be charged for that battery replacemnt, the battery keeps track of your computers system time, hope this helps and good luck with that beeping (:

Yes, computer do have a different internal speaker that can make beeps and it sounds like the beep you're discussing is coming from one of those.

you could have a function assigned with a tone. mute the entire sound systema and see if it continues to beep. if not, you have a function that the pc does in the background assigned to a tone.
