i was typing on microsoft works and it closed itself down is there any way i can get the document back?

Unless you saved it before it crashed...NO.
you could try using OpenOffice its a lot better and its FREE.
When typing you should save your work every 2 minutes so that you don't loose it all if the application quits on you.
