I posted a question regarding this article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071011/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq&printer=1;_ylt=Ai5UDa6dwy4ftmAy8brHJPUUewgF

Specifically, I asked if there is a formula of some kind being used by the US military that somehow justifies a certain number of dead Iraqi civilians given the number of suspected terrorists that are killed. This is a legitimate question, has nothing to do with national security, and is highly relevant to the current events taking place such as the killing of 9 Iraqi children during a recent US military attack. Yahoo is censoring questions that challenge the humanitarian aspect of the continuing war in Iraq? WHY????? What's going on here?

From Yahoo community guidelines: "What’s the difference between a strong opinion and a violation? Everyone has opinions, and it’s what makes Answers vibrant and fun. However, opinions must be shared in a respectful manner. Do not use slurs to refer to groups of people, do not insult other members, and do not act in a belligerent manner towards others."

1. opinions are allowed as long as they are kept respectable.

2. One can have a "strong opinion," which can come in the form of a statement.

--There's something really wrong going on here. It reminds me of Orwell's 1984 (and that's my "strong opinion").

Probably because such "questions" are usually more like "statements."

I looked at the story in the link. It has somehow eluded you that one of the techniques used by the Salafist Jihadists consists of children being used as human shields. It is true in Afghanistan as well. And, since they also embrace the doctrine of "takfir" which says it is O.K. in the carrying out of Jihad for Muslim to kill Muslim, the religious beliefs of the children or the parents never enters into the equation.
The U.S. has tried its level best to reduce harm to civilians. Millions of dollars have been spent to develop munitions that deliver lethality on a target without extensive damage to surrounding areas or people. The exact opposite of the IEDs being used by the terrorists.
The only "formula" regarding casualties is an Army Field Manual which is used to predict our forces' dead and wounded during battles involving massed concentration of troops on both sides (FM 10-101). Since this war does not involve such a scenario, the field manual is considered obsolete.
I hope this information is useful to you.

Have you ever heard of community moderation? Yahoo doesn't remove the questions (most of the time, but there are mods, including presumably some Neo-Conservative mods). I had an answer removed once because I compared the Neo-Cons to the Nazis (and of course, that is something which is extremely easy to back up, as the only difference between Giuliani and Hitler is that Giuliani doesn't want to murder 6 million Jews).

YAhoo is not censoring the question as much as someone is complaining about the question.

You have to understand that validity is not a criteria int he removal of any question or answer

Because the people who do this work for Yahoo are essentially rather low level clerks and controversy makes them get all scratchy and itchy.

They are not. This forum is meant for answering questions, not stating beliefs in the form of a question while trolling for radical replies. It is about time they got serious.

We do not enjoy free speech here.

Yahoo's attitude, "My house, my rules."

Children die when their parents allow a butcher to take over their country and we have to bail them out. Children die when parents allow them to rubberneck troops engaged in a firefight.

Blame the parents for the dead children.

Blame the Libs for the story.
