North. Better weather. Better mountains. Better beaches. Better schools. Not as many fire ants. Usually more progressive. Asheville is a great small city. Charlotte, not so much unless you're in the banking industry. South Carolina is still trying to overcome several decades of Strom Thurmond.

Since I've been to N. Carolina, I'm gonna have to go with the northern one. Plus, the north is better than the south!!! Jk, =P But not really...

NORTH. i've been to both, and north is a little, just a LITTLE less conservative then the south. so if you ever visit, go north.
asheville, charlotte, winston-salem (my home) and raleigh are great.
wilmington is fantastic, topsail island and wrightsville beach are simply gaw-gess.
so just go NORTHH!!
