Just a few minutes ago I was shutting down vista. I reached down to turn on the computer but the power button didn't do a thing. No fans, no lights, no hdd's spinning up, nothing. (btw, this is a pc I built myself).
I would assume that this is either a motherboard or a psu issue except for the fact that the little green LED that asus motherboards have that tell you when juice is running through them is on, also the nic has lights flashing (like it always does).
So, basically I'm wondering what you all think I should do. I plan on buying a new psu tomorrow to make sure, but do you all have any other tips?

My computer has a cpu..what's a psu? *chuckling* I'm assuming you're using an alternate computer to ask this question? Maybe your power unit has enough juice to light up the motherboard, but not enough to power up the fan, hdd, etc. You might want to purchase another power unit..

switch on and jiggle the cables about, sometimes they dont connect too good, locate the problem connector and get a splitter cable and take the power off of another one.
also check that the CPU fan is working correctly and connected properly, with out that working, it could be a fail safe system to keep it from burning out.

Im confused that youre able to build your own system, but cant fix it when broken...weird. Anyways, its a computer, it could be any number of problems. You gotta retrace your steps and see what you did last. Im a computer engineer from UF and computers SUCK!! Again, it can be anything, but if you retrace your steps, most likely youll find the problem.

pull the cable from the power supply (beween the wall outlet & the computer) and leave it out for 20+ seconds, than put it back in and see what it does, if that doenst help.. i personally would say its the motherboard... but power supply would be a possibility

Could it be that the power button simply isn't making contact with the switch?

ok you probably are much smarter than this, but it could be as easy as Escape button. just make sure everything is plugged in how its suppose to. then you have no choice but to buy a new one. sorry
