Let me start off by saying that when i first started Y/A! I had so much fun that my daughter had her own Y/A! profile...Then, as I got more familiar with it,I deleted her account. Because, even though this site is fun and random..It is too "Intergrated". In a nutshell...they should have a Teen section of Y/A! Polls and an adult Y/A! Polls.....I am a parents best friend. I HATE seeing your kid on the same site that we may or may not have a "sex" question!!!
I monitored my kid...Monitor yours!!

My kids are not allowed on here, mainly because of what you stated above.I agree that there should be a "Teen Only" section.

Yes, a while back I made a similar suggestion, but make it an adults only section.

One of the many responses I got was,how do you determine age and verify it . Also then an adult section opens a whole new can of worms, as in, do the guidelines then change and if so how?

I still think parents are the key to monitoring what kid's see. It has nothing to do with what websites are out there. Just like T.V and radio, it is no different, in.my opinion.

I undertsand that you dont want your children to see or hear these things but the best thing you can do is to talk to them about it. Like it or not the children today hear these things every day not just from the media but also from their friends. We cant keep children sheltered from this forever- statistics show that the earlier you teach your children how do deal with these conversations (ie: how to keep away from coversations like it, how to change topics and how to say no) the safer they are-the less teen pregnancy, less depresion, etc.
make sure you let your children see what is happening in the word but show them what to do about it. Would you rather they heard it from a friend or from you?
I suggest that you go through this site with you child next to you and just explain that somtimes things are not right.sometimes people like to be mean or very explicit.
Make sure your child knows that they can ask you whatever they want and that you wont judge or be "all concerned" just because they asked- if you children think you will make it a big deal they will go somewhere else for answers and those places are never better.
Remember if your child asks you something that makes you uncomfortable or worried DONT SHOW IT . just take a deep breath and remember it is for their own good to ask and atleast they came to YOU.
Remember if they dont face it now then there is more of a chance that their first time facing it they will be all alone.

-No i am not a teenie i am a college student finishing my Masters in Child Psychology.

I would also have done the same thing, it's amazing how much freedom give their kids with the internet, especially when there are so many weirdos in here!! I have a lot of respect for the parents who monitor these things and know just what their children are doing and who they are talking to!! Because of the young people in here I'm extra careful about what I ask or answer and the way that I word them!! I wish all parents took the time and care that you do!!

m neither a teen nor a parent
i am sure if there was an only teens section you'd still find some adults there....parents should just monitor their kids and correct them when they go wrong.helps the parent-child relationship....if they don't get to know about this stuff on here they'll get to know about it somewhere else where maybe u parents are likely not going to know about..now which is safer?

It won't work having a teen section because kids already lie
about their ages just to be on Yahoo. Anybody can make an account with wrong info on it.
Best bet.. don't let your child on here. I never would.

You are right. I would hate for any kids to come across the pornographic avatars that I have seen on here.

I totally agree with you. What is funny some of these so called
"for the kids sake!" people running around here. Who want to give their children "FREE-REIGN" on this sight want to call themselves "GOOD PARENTS" when in FACT if they were such good parents. THEY themselves would've done the samething as yourself!! I say "KUDOS" to YOU!!! If the truth be known they've given their "KIDS" such "FREE-REIGN"......With what they've seen & done (WITHOUT THEIR PARENTS KNOWLEDGE) would probably "CURL OUR TOES!!" and they would SWEAR,"That's not my little ANGEL" Yeah, RIGHT!! ........LOL ..Have a great night!!
