A substrate is a substance to which enzymes react to. Substrates maybe protein, carbohydrates or nucleotides in nature, and are enzyme specific.
The product will depend upon the type of enzyme it reacts to, e.g. if it reacts with a transaminase, it will produce glutamate which is an amino acid.

If the topic is digestion and protein is being digested, then the products would be amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks that proteins are made of.
