hiya, Distortion pedals and overdrive pedals are somewhat comparable in that the two create distortion (by potential of clipping the sound waves). With an overdrive pedal the quantity of the distortion effect varies with the quantity point. At low quantity there'll be little or no distortion. With a distortion pedal, the quantity of the distortion effect is dialed in and maintains to be consistent in any respect quantity ranges. subsequently utilising the two an overdrive and a distortion pedal isn't a large theory as a results of fact the two are becoming distortion. It turns into complicated to dial interior the tone you want. A compressor/sustainer pedal will between different issues upload some quantity. you will possibly decide to apply that in the time of front of a distortion or overdrive pedal and not in the back of it. The compressor/sustainer pedal will additionally strengthen any noise. maximum overdrive and distortion pedals are noisy. you're probable searching for a clean strengthen. you may set Timmy to offer you clean strengthen. you additionally can get a clean strengthen from an previous Klon. yet those pedals are expensive, exceedingly the previous Klon pedals (if it is likewise possible to locate one). A Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster Pedal provides you with a clean strengthen and is inexpensive. it truly is advisable to examine that out. Danelectro makes a extra present day pedal of their Cool Cat sequence, the CTO-a million. it truly is a Timmy clone and supply you with a clean strengthen. i think the CTO call stands for clean clean overdrive. honestly, i like the metal master, its by far a GREAT and economic pedal...
but recently i bought the uber metal, and its as good as the metal master but with some extra kiks, like it can remove the fuzz noise in the line, and it has 3 types of editable distortion, one early metal, one 80s metal, and a modern type one, REALLY GOOD PEDAL, cost me 80 bucks here, dont know how much it might be in the states though, cant be much more

I recommend buying a multi-effect processor and with $200 you can find some pretty decent ones out there... well... out here, anyway.
I'd check out some reviews before buying and then make my choice.
You can start out here: http://ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/guitar_effects/
Good luck!
