My truck wont go into 4 wheel low only 4 wheel high and 2 wheel drive when I try puting it in low it makes a loud clunk then 30 sec later it like clunks back like its trying but it cant get there my 4 wheel service light also comes on and off it has 160,000 miles any one know what could be wrong? Thanks

The first thing to do is get the PCM scanned to see what code is set as a warning light indicates something has triggered. These had problems with the switches on the dash, the encoder motors, and also had lots of trouble with transfer cases grenading. Have to check a few things before it can be determined what to do.

You need repairs in the transfer case, it is not shifting properly. I would start by checking the fluid level in the transfer case, this is often neglected. After 160,000 miles the fluid should be changed, or at least inspected. This is the most likely cause, if it is not you will need a transmission specialist

sounds like you have a problem with the encoder motor that changes te transfer chace throught 4 hi lo and 2wd.have the truck scanned but more than likely thats the problem.
