NEVER use more than ONE antivirus as it actually harms your computer. Since I'm assuming you've paid for Norton and it's better than AVG, remove AVG and keep Norton. Just update it and do some scans once in a while. You'll be fine. Use a firewall and antispyware too. Spybot, Superantispyware, Comodo, Spy Sweeper...all good products

DON'T USE FREEWARE
The term "You Get What You Pay For" REALLY applies when talking about antivirus.
First of all, you never want to have more than one antivirus installed.. they will conflict with each other (regardless of whether they are disabled) and will render each other less than useless.
If you have 2 installed, you must uninstall BOTH, and reinstall the one you want after a complete reboot.
I strongly suggest you use antivirus / firewall / anti-spyware combo from a RELIABLE vendor (like McAfee, Norton, etc)... ensure that you properly configure the program and have it setup to automatically update. The reason you pay for these is so that you get those automatic updates AND so that you have an antivirus scanner scanning in REAL-TIME... which means it is always on watching you opening and closing and downloading files... whereas that freeware crap does a single scan only when you initiate it... so worthless protection.
Good Luck.

No, you should never run two antivirus programs at the same time, they will conflict with one another. And if you are doing so, I'm surprised your system hasn't slowed down to a snails crawl. Nortons for one is the biggest pig of a resource hog I've ever seen.
Uninstall Nortons and keep AVG.
And just like any virus, Your Nortons will need a special removal tool to pick it's hooks out of your registry. Get the Nortons removal tool here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
When your system is clean of Nortons and it restarts, you may get a pop up telling you to reinstall it, DON'T.
Good Luck

The use of 2 or more anti-virus programs at the same time can cause major conflicts. The 2 scanning engines will fight each other to scan every file that you read, write or execute which can cause a major computer slowdown. For the same reason, using 2 A-Vs can cause you to have less protection from the various malware, not more.
(Using an anti-spyware with an anti-virus is good, however and is recommended)
You might consider choosing just one A-V and removing any others.

Yes, but install AVG last.
I removed Norton because it kills performance where AVG is much lighter and not a lot of eextras.
Since it is free, make sure you keep it updated with the latest definitions.
I have used AVG for over a year with NO VIRUSE damage. It DID FIND a bunch but saved me.
Norton is bloated with everything and the kitchen sink.

Its not a good idea to run two anti-virus programs. Pick one and be sure to download the latest virus-definitions.

You should never run 2 security programs that do the same thing so delete one of them.
