they don't have to be, they just usually are. Kickers don't work out and bigger players usually choose to play on the O or D lines anyway. If your in high school and can kick 50 yarders that's great. And those guys above me saying Sebastian Janikowski are correct, look at him, he's big.

I seriously doubt that you can hit a 60 yard field goal with ease. NFL kickers have a lot of trouble with those. Plus, if you could hit a 30, 40, 50, or 60 yarder, you wouldn't need any help.

You don't have to be skinny. My cousin played DT, FB and K in high school. His farthest was a 42 yarder; they used him less than 20 times in two years. In practice he could hit from 50, and no he definantly isn't a little guy.

Sebastian Janikowski is a load and he can kick the ball a mile. He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, but he's got power.

There are many non skinny kickers and punters.

I remember Reggie Roby, the first black punter in NFL history. He was not exactly skinny.

If you can kick the distance, under pressure, then it shouldn't matter unless your over-weight. But it would help the special teams because you can kick and tackle!

No, I don't think that you need to be skinny if you can hit the ball good.
