I tried to do it, but its making me bonkers! Please help me and show your work so I can understand the process. Thanks! It's the following:

Shrieks are broadcast over the intercom every hour. On the hour one shriek occurs for each hour, at 3:00 AM, 3 shrieks are heard. This ritual began at 1:00 AM on Halloween morning. If the school clocks are on a 24 hr. system, how many shrieks will be broadcast on Oct. 31?

1am - 1
2am - 2
3am - 3
4am - 4
5am - 5
6am - 6
7am - 7
8am - 8
9am - 9
10am - 10
11am - 11
noon - 12
1pm - 13
2pm - 14
3pm - 15
4pm - 16
5pm - 17
6pm - 18
7pm - 19
8pm - 20
9pm - 21
10pm - 22
11pm - 23
midnight - heard at midnight plus 1 second - that's Nov 1

I think...
Midnight is 0 hour = no shrieks
1am.= 1 shriek
2 am. = 2 shrieks total 3 shrieks
3 am. = 3 shrieks total 6 shrieks
and on and on and on
12 noon = 12 shrieks (total so far 78)
1 pm = 1300 hours = 91 shrieks so far
2300 hours would be 23 shrieks
2400=midnight=0 shrieks
total? I got 284
Follow the above pattern and see if you agree.

I would say either 144 or 156
