The gasket is blown and is going to cost me about 1600 bucks to fix. The car has just over 100,000 miles on it but I have had no mechanical problems up to this point. Do you think it is worth fixing or should I buy a new car?

If the REST of the car is in good shape, tires, paint, interior, etc etc then it's worth fixing if you serviced the engine regularly, you could maybe get another 80K miles out of it.

If you neglected oil changes, the engine COULD be just about worn out, and maybe you should consider a whole new engine.

Of course it's worth it if the car is still in good shape. A head gasket is such a miniscule part, the reason it's so expensive is everything else you have to do to fix it. The engine gets ripped apart, and then you need your heads cleaned and everything from the leaking fluid. So if your engine was in good shape up to that point i'd go for it

Since it is cheaper to but a head gasket kit then it would be to buy just what gaskets are needed then you make do the math and make the big decision.

How do you know the head gasket is blown / shot ?? Has it had a compression check, is it obvious, did some "mekanik" tell you, did you guess it was ? what are the symptoms ?? Is it misfiring, is there water in the oil pan (may or may not depending on gasket), are there air bubbles in radiator fill spout, is it running hot ? NEVER replace any part till you know the problem.
