Is it legal for the media to play or post on a website 911 tapes with your phone number in it? as an example you call to report a crime and the 911 operator says to you " your name is john smith and your phone # is 555-1234" then the tape is uploaded (unedited) on to the internet website of tv station or news paper. Can they legally do this? can you please give me something to back this up?

Phone numbers are supposed to be confidential. Media cannot just print your number if you have no consent.

Yes. You released your phone number into the "public domain" as soon as you accessed 911. 911 is a public tax-funded service, so anything that the 911 operator can see on her computer as well as whatever you and he/she says on a 911 tape is automatically considered public information. 15 years ago, I had a similar experience where my house caught fire and I had to call 911 to get the fire department to respond. They printed my full name and address in the local newspaper, and I really hated that but they were well in their rights to do so.
