I like my wife to do whatever makes her feel attractive and good about herself. Her happiness ads to my well being. It’s always a compliment to me when she gets those second looks. I just politely utter “Eat you heart out”.

I have observed that most controlling men like their wives to look plain while they lust after the flashy ones.

I was raised in a Pentecostal Christian home where there were more taboos than most people could imagine. Thankfully I was blessed with an open mind and arrived to adulthood without any major scars or hang-ups. My parents loosened up a lot in their middle age.

Feminine is a state of mind, and not an article of clothing.

I wore dresses or skirts to school until about 3rd grade. By the time I got to middle school I wore either 'walking shorts' (shorts that came to the top of my knee) or jeans. I'd wear a dress or skirt to school once in awhile, but jeans were so much more practical. Skirts and dresses restricted my movements too much....because I didn't want to flash people when the wind blew, or if I dropped my books, or had to climb a step stool to reach a book, etc.

I tried wearing scrub dresses at work, especially when I was pregnant. However, the flash issue occurred again. Climbing onto a bed or stretcher to do compressions during CPR is not the best time to wear a dress....unless you are a person who enjoyed the view. Again, pants were more practical, and actually more lady-like.

I do own business clothes now. I'd say I wear a dress or skirt once for every 30 times I wear pants or slacks. Dresses and skirts are cooler. The real big change for me has been giving up wearing hose or stockings with skirts or dresses. I live in Florida, hose and stockings are very uncomfortable here most of the time. Plus, they don't last very long due to snags and runs....yuck. I enjoy wearing skirts and dresses far more now that I don't wear hose.

I wear jeans, shorts, skirts and dresses when I go out on a date with my husband. I feel feminine, even when I wear jeans and one of my husband's Hawaiin shirts. Feminine is a state of mind, and not an article of clothing.

If your husband thinks you should wear dresses because he admires how you look, then he might be paying you a compliment. If your husband thinks you should wear dresses because that is his idea of how a woman should behave, I'd tell him he might want to work on his perception of 'woman'...;)

I believe that most liberated women today, dress for comfort
when they are not at work. Women by and large stopped
wearing house dresses if that's what you refer to during my
youth, cutting off in the mid 50's. My mom was the first on our
street to wear peddle pushers. Pants that cuffed around the
calf or higher below the knee. Others began to copy her after
seeing her walk to the store, and she became a trend setter
bring everyone out of the doldrums and enjoying the comfort
and flexibility of pants to do housework in and also wear to
a store. In plain view of everyone, no less.
I myself, haven't worn a dress since I was at our sons'
wedding some seventeen years ago. It was the first time he
had seen me in a dress in so many years, it was like he saw
me for the first time, and couldn't stop complimenting me.
I've always preferred pants as that has been the norm of
my generation. I wore dresses only for going to special
occasions and they were usually cocktail types. Or for
general evening wear. And that has also been the norm for
friends of mine. But if your husband finds you more pleasing
in a dress at home, well then maybe you should pick up a
couple and try them at home on days when you don't plan to
scrub floors or clean the bathtub and toilets or what have you that is dirty work.
Maybe the rewards will spark more appreciation for having
you acknowleging his special request. And that would make it all worthwhile.

I was born in 1955, Inglewood California. My Mom wore dresses alot until I was about 10, then she wore something they called MooMoo's. When I grew up and started High School, girls still wore dresses but alot went to skirts, Mini Skirts in fact. Pants were also in, but they were mostly Levi's...I think Levi's have always been a popular pants, at least since the 60,s. Levi's and smoking weed was the cool thing around the 60's. Nevertheless, I personally find pants to be ok, but!, I do like to see a Lady in a beautiful dress when the occasion fits. Femininity is something that is lost now adays, too many women want to look like men, I guess that is because it is suppose to be cool to be gay now, I don't know...perhaps I am miss lead into thinking this. As for your husband? Compromise is the most important thing in a marriage, good luck!

My first pair of trousers was when I was 22 and my first pair of jeans when I was 36!! My husband always wanted me to wear dresses - and I believe women look much better in skirts than trousers. But I hate having cold legs - and you have to wear heels if you are shorter like I am. So, as I don't care what anyone else thinks, I wear trousers most of the time. Why don't you compromise? Wear dresses on some occasions and pants on others.

I had to wear a school uniform when I was a kid, and we were not allowed to wear pants or slacks when I first started working. Now I wear dresses only when absolutely necessary and that has been at least five years ago. In fact I don't own a dress, only two skirts, and the rest are pants and tops.

When I was growing up we wore dresses most of the time except for play clothes which were usually pants or slacks as we called them. Women wear slacks, men wear pants. Now because I am either doing yard work, house work, grocery shopping etc., I wear pants. I do wear a skirt or dress for Church or weddings etc. I remember how excited I was to be able to wear my jeans to school in 1969.

I am a farmer! I wear pants all week. I drive equipment, care for a few animals and farm fields with crops.
No dress would let me accomplish that task!
EVER!!!!!!!!!
I am also one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Tuesday night I have a Christian meeting, Thursday morning, and Sunday, Then there is the public ministry, all of these require I dress like a lady.

That does not change who or what I am. Pants are necessary in this world to survive, Dresses are expected at Christan meetings, and I for one am HAPPY to look like a Lady a couple of days a week!!!

Like Peanuthead, the only time we wore slacks to school was in the winter, and under our skirts and dresses. Went on to Catholic high school and we had to wear skirts that had about a thousand pleats in the darn things! We all looked hippy and pudgey, no matter how thin you were:). I love my jeans and wear them most of the time, but now that I live in the South, I wear a lot of skirts and dresses in the summer. Find them much cooler, plus I honestly don't mind feeling a little feminine now and then. That's me, and you just do what's comfortable for you. And if your husband stays fixated on the dress thing, take Goldwing's advice. That should shush him up!

When I started high school we weren't allowed to wear pants, except during the 2-3 worst winter mts, since we got so much snow. It was later changed. When I was in Girl Scouts, meetings were held in the church, so we couldn't even wear pants to those. At home we wore shorts & pants though.

Now I wear comfy clothes-jeans, capris, shorts, etc. I also wear casual jumpers & dresses at house alot, once I figured out it wasn't dresses I hated, but pantyhose. lol

My husband comments when he likes something I wear, but he never tells me what to wear. I hope you all can work this out before it becomes a bigger issue. Good luck!

Definitely not...that was the previous generation to me. (I'm a 1949 vintage girl). I wore dresses only as a child, but got into pants around 13 and pretty much lived in them ever since (apart from school and nursing uniforms) . Now, I've been watching those "makeover" shows on Foxtel, and have bought myself a few nice light skirts for evening wear. I must admit, they make me feel more "girly", but for day-to-day wear, pants still rule.
