Scientists study anything. What makes a study scientific is not the subject being studied, it is the method being applied.
Some basics to scientific work are observation, hypothesis (a speculation on what is being observed) an experiment to see if the hypothesis worked and eventually a theory explaining whatever is be studied.
A good study must make sense, have an experiment that directly relates to the hypothesis and be so clearly presented that other people can duplicate the work and reach the same results.

I'm guessing you are asking about professional scientists, rather than people using the scientific method.
The scientific method is just a way of performing an investigation in a detailed, thorough manner - trying to account for all variables.
For professional scientists, it will depend on their particular discipline. There are *lots* of different fields.
For Chemistry, it might be trying to find a new way to synthesise a particular chemical (like the chemicals in flat-screen monitors, or polymers used in implanted prosthettics in medicine). Physicists might be investigating ways to achieve nuclear fusion, in order to generate "clean" nuclear energy.
Myself, as a biologist (specifically a Tissue Engineer), I am trying to get adult stem cells to differentiate into bone within a polymer scaffold, in order to make "artificial bone" for surgical/therapeutic use.

Scientists study nature. The old name for science was "natural philosophy". Scientists seek natural explanations for natural phenomena.

It really depends on the what the scientist specialized in. Otherwise I don't really know.

hi , you particular you're actually not getting at a loss for words with area-time (And the size) ,time dilation etc.. the enormous Hadron Collider is used to objective the main accepted open questions of physics inclusive of time . i assume you ought to call the LHC the 'internet'
