I don't know if Dominant species would be the best description. In the Americas the wolf and the cougar would be the top predators. You could then decide for all the different regions which would be top. The lion in most of Africa, The tiger throughout its range etc.
Without more evolution in the apes, I don't think any species would be capable of dominating like humans.

Humans didnt exist 100Million years ago and there was no dominant species back then. Probably dinosaurs. But I think apes would be the dominant species. In particular Gorillas......
