Christians are so strongly against gay marriage, but are silent on divorce and re-marriage. Christ spoke specifically that re-marriage is adultery (Mathew 5:31) but he says not one word about gays.

Shouldn’t the religious conservatives be pushing for a constitutional amendment?

You won't find one word in any of the 4 Gospels.

Christ/God doesn't say a word about homosexuality????

Really, hmmmmm we must have different versions of the Bible.

If you actually walked in Christian circles you would find that the argument against re-marriage following divorce is quite vehemently debated. Unfortunately for your argument, it's not a political debate.

Doesn't the same Josephus that wrote about Jesus, write about gangs of men dressing like women hanging around the streets of Jerusalem? And didn't the disciples agree that the Jewish/religious laws need not be kept by the gentile believers? This is more to answer those that refer to the OT laws.

Regardless of your religion, our secular laws should not be influence by nor should they reflect any individual groups morality. Legislating your or anyone's morality is a abuse of our rights.

First off, requiring a couple that doesn't get along to stay with each other for the rest of their life will be painful for everyone. Have you ever had to provide any type of customer service to a couple that didn't get along? That will be bad for the whole world, probably worse than a religious war...

I wish people would just stop trying to enforce morals relative to an individuals choice and focus on more important issues like our economy.

good question.

But,don't go giving fundamentalist religious nuts any ideas. Religious beliefs do not have a place in the Constitution. The Constitution can only specify that we have the right to choose our beliefs and practice what we believe. We can not amend the Constitution to include those beliefs.

The lawyers and the real estate agents won't like it.
If there are no divorces there's no money to make.

There were no gay marriages earlier, it was not talked about
as openly as today. Today we have more rights than before.

I'm a Christian, and I'm not offended by this, because it's an honest question. You're absolutely right, Christ never mentioned homosexuality. The thing is, Jesus knew the OT law backwards and forewards...He was God in the flesh.

He never really attacked the issue of homosexuality because the comtemporary religious leaders of His day, the Pharisees, knew the law very well also. They knew what the OT law said about homosexuality. In their culture, it would never have been accepted, or even considered.

The Pharisees thought they were closest to God because they lived by the law to the "t". They thought "We've finally got it. We can be good enough for God."

Jesus came to show that you cannot please God by fulfilling the law, that all men fall short of God's glory, and only by His blood can men be saved (Romans 3:23, Romans 5:8-9).

Jesus hammered home the point of divorce because the Pharisees were trying to take advantage of the law in that regard. They would marry women and then discard them for no reason. That in no way reflects God's ideal for marriage.

A man should love his wife in a sacrificial way, as Christ loved the church (Eph. 5).

Hmm...Jesus came to set the Religious leaders straight because they were taking God's law and misusing it to gain power....Hmmmm...

Sounds like He could return today and find the same thing.

Remember: What they are selling is 'salvation', and they can promise it to you for all three. It's just that they have far more takers for numbers one and two.

If they started having a lot of "ex" gays coming to the church and filling the coffers then THAT group would be handled with kid gloves.

They call it religion, but it's got a heck of a lot to do with economics...

I thought most Christians get divorced and remarry. Don't they also live together before marriage? You see every day that they have extramarital affairs. But, as long as they believe in Jesus, everything is OK.

Simple, trying to ban divorce isn't the cash cow that fear mongering of gays is. Groups like the America Family Assoc. which took in something like $110 million last year alone are just cashing in on bigotry.

There is legitimate divorce according to the Bible but most divorce cases would not hold up to that standard. Gay marriage very basically condones gay lifestyle so that's why they're up in arms about it. Which is pointless because it's just a hormonal irregularity. The Bible's wrong about gays.
