The only people who seem to think the only way we can relate to other countries is by "expanding the US are the extreme right. And isolationism is NOT the only alternative.
What the US has traditionally done is try to deal with other nations on an equal footing, more or less--on a basis of dealing in good faith with peace and consensus as the central boal. We haven't always done that--and haven't always succeeded. but that's been the main theme of US foreign policy.
There are alternatives to throwing one's weight around. The people who think that's the only optionare only showing their own inferiority--jsut like any other bully.

Oh please. Ever since the Monroe Doctrine (1823) was passed,Washington has tried keeping it's thumbs into everybody's pie.
There are politicos here who don't feel safe unless they have intelligence operatives as the "Power Behind the Throne" of each nation so they know what's going on each minute of the day.
