You mean in Greece?

Well it was mainly Athens fault. There were greek colonies in modern day Turkey (Asia Minor). This area was controlled by the Persian Empire. Athens supported these cities in their rebellion against the Persian Empire. So the Persians declared war and marched to re-conquer the greek colonies in Turkey (Asia Minor). After they succeeded they crossed over to Greene and tried to conquer it. A coalition of the city-states eventually was able to beat them.
