One of the reasons that prevented the germans from completely destroying Russia was the fact that winter came earlier than expected.

The germans would of destroyed Russia had winter not come as early as it did at the time they were in Moscow.

I had also learned that the invasion of Poland was also a reason why Germany failed.
Germany attacked Russia on June 22 at 3:00 a.m., the russians units on the frontier were swamped, tumbled out of their huts and holes before they even knew they were at war, in manyplaces the chain of command simply collapsed, and the russian high command appeared completely stunned by the attack and the aggression the germans had brought, within a few days it looked as if the germans wree well ahead of their own predictions, and the war would of been won.

By the first week of July they were on native russian soil. Another mistake Hitler had done was the fact that he refused to go straight to Moscow, where Stalin would be forced, want to or not, commit everything he had to the defense of the city, if this had happened, they would of destroyed the remnants of the Red Army , and the war would of been won.
The Ukraine saw the Germans as liberators, Nazi ideology would not accept Ukrainians as human, as of that result had made enemies of millions who would have bled for Germany.
By the time the germans reached Moscow, both sides were at their last gasp, If the Russians could only last until General Winter came to the rescue, they might well live to fight again.
By any reasonable numerical measure the germans had already won, they were in possesion of two-thirds of Russias coal reserves, and three-quarters of russian iron ore.

Thousands of russian tanks, guns, and aircrafts had beeen destroyed or captured, and the red army had been all but wiped out. In fact, if there wre really 2 and a half million russian soldiers in european russia in june, it had been wiped out almost twice already, it was considered the greatest campain in history.
In november 15th the germans had gained north and south of Moscow, but infront of Moscow, russians replied with a desperate counter offensive that held the central german forces on the defensive for 2 weeks.
Germans were still making progresson the first of December, they hpoed to close a greater pincer around the city, the heart of both communism and the entire russian military, and its communication network. To the north they were even with the city; to the south they were well past it, and turning northward, thrap was beginning to close. It looked as if victory were within their grasp.

The hand froze before it could clutch, winter arrived early, the earliest and the hardest winter in half a centur, the germans, had expeced to win by now, they had summer uniforms, summer equipment, and lightweight oil in their guns and engines. Over night the temperature dropped and kept on dropping; it finally clunked to the bottom at forty degreee below zero. A last spastic effort carried the German 3rd and 4th Panzer groups within 25 miles of Moscow and was as close as it ever got. the German drive collapsed on the 5th of December, the russians incredibly opened a counter offensive on the 6th.

If Germany had defeated Russia, they would have been able to get gas and oil. They would have been able to have time to perfect the V2 rocket and possibly the atomic bomb. The war would have lasted a lot longer and many more people would have died. Possibly Germany could have won.

I agree it would have been nearly impossible for Germany to have "Destroyed" the Soviet Union. A more likely outcome might have been a defeat of the Soviet armed forces. Even that was problematic as there were at least 20 Siberian Army devisions in the East. However, Germany would have been hard pressed to occupy the immensity of the Soviet Union while still guarding against attacks from the west.
Thus, German forces would face constant attrition from the remaining Siberian Forces. Supplying the German forces in the Soviet Union would be a logistic nightmare.
It should be remembered that during World War II the United States outproduced ALL the other combatants COMBINED!
Additionally from a scientific point of view the German nuclear project was incapable of producing a workable bomb. Werner Heisenberg miscalculated the critical mass of needed fissile material by a factor of 1000. (Hitler and his cronies did not accept Jewish Science). The US Manhattan Project would not have been molested by the exit of the Soviet Union as a viable partner and probably would have been accelerated. Remember that the possibility of a German "Bomb" was the stimulus of the Manhattan Project.
The US had already begun work on the Hemisphere Defender Bomber (which later became the 12,000-mile range B-36) by 1942 and the B-29 first flew that year.
Hence, the Allies would have had an atomic bomb at least by 1945 and possibly earlier as well as a means to deliver it to German cities. (The B-36 could not be intercepted reliably by even the first generation jet fighters of the early 50's.)
Additionally, Germany possessed nowhere near the naval capability of the combined US and Royal Navies and by 1943 those two navies were winning the Battle of the Atlantic and devastating German U-boats. Without a viable naval force Germany could not realistically threaten the US.
Germany had no means to project power, they had no carrier air force, and never really developed a long-range bomber capability. Without a nuclear warhead the V-1 and V-2 missles would remain terror weapons only with no strategic capability to threaten America.
The war may have been prolonged, especially as the US moved assets from the Pacific Theater, but the end result would have been the same.

The first answerer is right. But I'd like to add, that Hitler would get not just gas, oil but also iron, food and the most important thing - an additional time. And no one knows what tne Nazi scientists could design with more time. May be they could finish the nuclea bomb or they could make a super tank. So I guees with they could a perfect chance to win WWII.
P.S. I don't quiet agree that the winter was the only reason of the German defeat. There were many reasons opposite that. First, the Russian soldies have been brave and smart.
Second, practically all Soviet nations rose against the Nazis
Third, many good weapons were designed and started to produce really quick.
And the last, we can say that Pearl Harbor helped to defeat Germany, cause the Soviet Union was able to move forces from the Far East without fear to be attacked by Japan.

Redunicorn's answer is accurate, for defeating Russia; but you asked about Hitler destroying Russia (The Soviet Union). This could never have happened. Over 20 million Russians died in WWII. They built tanks in bombed out buildings, they attacked Germans with fewer guns than soldiers. Short of total nuclear annihilation the Russian people would have never given up --

No one can answer that question because:
1) it is not feasible
2) it’s a ridiculous speculation
Nazi Germany NEVER could have won and the USSR would NEVER have been defeated.
Asking these types of questions are stupid because you would have to change SO MUCH for this certain scenario to occur. And a result, any consequences that arise (Germany beating the USSR) is out into complete fantasy and not useful.
And your comment about “winter coming sooner than expected” is an ignorant one indeed.
All anyone can answer to your question is what were the plans of Germany if the USSR were defeated. Which you can find here: http://history1900s.about.com/library/holocaust/aa110899.htm

Without Russia, and if germany captured all territory, the Allies wouldve been easily crushed. The troops the UK, USA, Canada footed was too small to destroy the Nazis if they defeated Russia. However, if Germany hadnt captured all territory, their economy wouldve quickly crashed and defeating them would be easy, but if Russia was destroyed, preety much, wed be screwed

If Hitler had beaten the Soviet Union then Germany may not have been defeated.
The germans could have returned all their firepower on the UK with the additional resources from their conquest of the Soviet Union.

depends on how early in the war they would have destroyed russia. early enough, and they would have had access to all their resources and the war would have dragged out longer before they got their asses handed to them. however there would have been no cold war since there was no russia. or maybe there would have been a cold war with germany. idonno.
