I think that the greatest achievement of the Apollo program was returning the Apollo 13 astronauts to Earth safely.

Most people would probably say the 1'st Moon landing. But I think getting the crew back alive after the huge system failure on Apollo 13 says a lot more about American Engineering ability and overall spaceflight skills.
