There are so many angles to take per your
Q.

Even in my 20's I'd spent considerable time
pondering this, and seemingly, every turn
of even moderately significant timelines
and occurrences.

In so many ways, the answer really must
be Yes, but, of course, there are countless
parts of the equation which are losses
much suffered-over and -upon.

Technology and modernity have destroyed the way of life of the American family and the simpler, easier times that we once enjoyed.
So my answer would be an emphatic no, we are the architects of our own destruction.

I don't think anything has been lost...
Everything builds off of the old...

Stories unfolding, telling themselves to other stories previously told...

We have everything we ever had...
It just presents itself differently...
So we have to look differently, to see it...
