Jayden, Leslie, Corey, Ashley, etc. What happen to John, Edward, Thomas, Peter...?

While I haven't met a boy named Leslie or Corey in quite some time (well, ever, since I've only known adults with those names LOL), nor any named Ashley (though it's quite trendy for girls, even now), all three are Celtic/English place names or surnames that would inherently be considered unisex.

Jadon, on the other hand, is a MASCULINE Biblical name that only recently became used for both genders -- or at all, since it wasn't previously a common choice -- so a trendy choice no matter how you look at it ... but still a masculine one. The only reason anyone would think it feminine would be because they've known little girls given an male name that happens to have gotten popular all of a sudden. But that doesn't make it magically feminine. Not to mention the fact that it's still far more common for boys than girls. In the top 50 most popular boy names, while not even in the top 200 for girls!

But yes, to use some of your own examples, using Jadon for a girl is very akin to naming her John, Thomas or Peter -- just a few more examples of similar Biblical male names. LOL The only difference is trendiness.

Dear, those are unisex names. Many of them have been used for years...for example, Scarlett's first love in "Gone with the Wind" - his name was Ashley. Also, Leslie is not a new name for males...look at the actor Leslie Nelson who has to be in his 60's or 70's. Some of this is perception, too. I think of Corey as a male name, even though it's unisex, because I've only know one female Kory in my life. BTW, the names you listed are not the most common unisex names, except Jayden. The most common ones are: Jordan, Alexis, Angel, Riley, Peyton, Taylor, Cameron, Jayden, Avery, Jaden

Some of these names are old unisex names. Probably a lot of 19th Century English guys were called Lesley, Ashley , Evelyn & Marion. They probably used their initials instead.
Some parents just want to be original. I think they are just asking for trouble. Teasing aside, these boys will probably get a lot of their records confused because of ambiguous first name (unless there is a masculine middle name).

Totally agree man. What's up with this made-up junk.
I'm with Julia Roberts (and Dan Moder). Bring back the old school. Phinnaeus is a cool name. Who wouldn't love to be called Finn? Hazel is a great name too.

Names that contain a y should be for girls only. Is Hayden a boy, or girl, or both? My great-grandpa was Riley. My nephew is named after him, and a ton of crazy ladies think it's a new name, and it's for girls. Wrong, so you are so wrong, ladies.

People usually name their kids what they like!! Just like u would/did. Everyone don't like old fashioned names like John, Edward, Thomas, & Peter.

Because they think names like John , Edward, Thomas and Peter are too "Ordinary".
They want trendy and hopefully unique names for their kids.

My son has a man's name that has been changed (due to several actresses who changed their given name) to a girl's name. Now whenever I call a doctor or dentist office and say his name they always assume he's a girl. His name is a family name that goes back several hundred years and there is nothing feminine about it.

both Leslie and Ashley were always men's names until they were given to girls during the past 50 years or so

I think you have it backward

those traditional strong English boy names have gone out of fashion a bit
