It would have to be Van Halen - 1984. It's just such a classic album, no pretensions, just great pop/rock music.

These things are always difficult

I'm gonna start with

1. Bruce Sprigsteen - Born in the USA (1984) (It tells THE story of Regan's America and so well. Not lyrically or musically his best Album (the trio of album's before this one do that and D&D) But with most songs of the album going top 10 in the USA and spanning the globe. It's rock'n Roll and I like it!

2. Ornette Coleman - Free Jazz (1962) To capture the free jazz form on record, wow amazing. Read the liner notes, put the record on, and be amazed.

3. Charlie 'Bird' Parker - The Birdland Sessions, 1950s. Okay it's a compilation, actually a discography. Absolutely awesome. The power, the music, the drugs, the tragedy,

4. Simon and Garfunkel - Greatest Hit's Package (2004)
If you wanna know what pop-rock song writing is all about, listen to this. The genius of a lifetime, writing some of the most introspective, reflective, insightful and musically inspiring pop songs eva.

5. G.F. Handel - The Messiah Oratorio
The story of Christ has been written in music in many ways, in many times. Handel to my chagrin as J.S. Bach is my favourite classical composer, ahead of Shostacovich, masters the passion and emotion of the story, closest in musical form than perhaps anyone else has or is likely to.

I was a teenager when this album came out - there's not a dud track on the whole album. And when you consider the history of the band, and the romantic entanglements they were going through at the time, the fact that they even made this album - and survived - is remarkable. The band have commented that they realised after the album was done that the songs were about each other, and the various break ups in their relationships.

The one album I keep going back to is Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours". It's a soap opera within a rock band, and they lived to tell the tale.

Currently listening to Circus Animals by Cold Chisel. What a gem, the last time i listened was about 12 years ago. The band was tight and in fine form when this was recorded. Right from the blistering opening track 'You Got Nothin' I Want', the album takes off. 'Bow River', 'Forever Now', 'Hound Dog', 'Taipan', 'Wild Colonial Boy', all showcases for Ian Moss' impeccable guitar and Barnes' voice never sounded better. Phil Small's bass is driving along with Steve Prestwich and Don Walker great as usual.

A great album!

A song that makes it so special because it has great melody. It plays at the right moment when one is in that state of mind. It has to have great, simple lyrics and should not always mention love, even if it is talking about it. A message within the song is far more special than a song with the obvious. The singers need to understand the emotion behind the song. Computerized voice can only give a cold feeling and therefore, it will not be a classic.
