The fact that the U.S. signed and largely orchestrated International treaties that banned the use of torture for prisoners of war was something I always felt so proud of as an American.

That we would never lower ourselves to the tactics of the enemy was highly honorable and respectable.

Why are Americans allowing this abomination?

We are better than this!

Simulated drowning is torture!! Not to mention the things that I have read about that some say happened at Abu Grihab that we'll never hear about in the news.

ninja: Didn't you see the pictures from Abu Girhab of prisoners with electrodes hanging from their bodies? Electrocution!

Those who approve of torture are giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Not only does it disrupt one of the foundations of our (former) country, it hands the enemy an iron-clad excuse to torture captured soldiers. They might torture our men anyway, but by taking the low road as we are doing, we are inviting them to torture us, and killing the Geneva Convention. Our reputation is already in tatters, we are viewed as barbarians from pole to pole.

Not with a bang, but with a whimper. Death by nuclear war would have had more dignity than this pathetic decline into vermin-infested filth.

i've got faith those statements are a touch harsh. there's a flow in direction of a extra theocratic government. it is been occurring for some years. besides the indisputable fact that it's not the Republican celebration's doing, it is the electorate. And the Republican celebration, as does the Democrats, panders to teams of electorate. it is all approximately prevailing elections. coverage isn't important. As for freedom, rather. The shape is designed to forbid the formation of a theocracy.

You obviously don't know what happened in the Mexican War, the Civil War, World War II, the Korean War, The Vietnam War, the Cold War. You might be surprised that many of the governments that are now involved in wars and anti-terrorism fighting, are also using what squeamish people like you call torture.

Prisoners of war? They don't represent a country. They are not in uniform. They must be spies for somebody. Spies in wartime can be shot on the spot. Instead we keep them alive.

What an abomination.

It the time of war and to save many more lives, what's wrong with it?

What most of you liberals fail to acknowledge is the fact that rules of engagement and the rules of the Geneva Conventions ONLY apply to UNIFORMED enemy combatants and NOT terrorists.

If the Government was holding a terrorist with information related to the extermination of your entire family yet wasn't willing to divulge information, what would you say then?

Amerika has been flirting with fascism ever since the 1930s.
I think its really happeing this time. When Bush stole his first election in 2000, I expected bad things to happen.
We are seeing the results of a non military right wing coup..God knows what we need to do or what we will go through to set things right. Worse things are going to follow.

yes and I also recall that the people that did this were tried found guilty and imprisoned. Do you think the terrorists that behead prisoners get the same from their bosses?
If you think that this is the first time we have done this you are mistaken. The enemy does not conform to the Geneva convention and in their case I don't see that they deserve its protection.

To borrow a phrase from the Liberal Lefts bleoved Bill Clinton, "It depends on what the definition of 'is' is."

One mans torture technique is another mans interrogation technique.

If lopping off a couple of digits is what it takes to get some answers, so be it.
