As Kylie said, they are mostly for decoration as they do a very poor job of oxygenating the water. Also, they should NOT be used with live plants. These air stones will release the CO2 necessary for plants to respire (while in light), causing botanical stunting. If you want an air stone for looks, go ahead, but don't expect it to help your fish too much. Email me if you have any questions.

its called an air stone;)
If you have a small tank with an under gravel filter, then it is necessary. I have heard that it is good for oxygenating the water and that it is beneficial to live plants, bit Im not sure on that.

They look good though, and I know my mollies like playing in them every now and again.

it is supposed to help oxygenate the water but doesn't actually help much. filters are much better for aerating. really all they are good for is decoration.

oxygen comes in through the top of the water. bubblers dont do anything. they are aesthetic, so if you like them, keep it, if not, chuck it =)

i have one in my five gallon, and i think it circulates my water more to help filter it. since i've gotten it, my water has stayed very very clear.
