i need help with 2 probs.

1. 3.5(x-8)then divide it by 4= 2.8

2. 4(x-5)-8 then divide it by (-3)= 12

(3.5x - 28)/4 = 2.8

3.5x - 28 = 2.8 x 4

3.5x - 28 = 11.2

3.5x = 11.2 + 28

3.5x = 39.2

so x = 39.2/3.5

x = 11.2

2nd question

(4x-20-8)/-3 = 12

4x - 28 = -36

4x = -36 +28

4x = -8

so x = -2

__ 3.5x- 28 divided by 4=2.8
Divide 28 by 4
__ 3.5x-7=2.8
Add 7 to both sides
__3.5x=9.8
Divide bye 3.5 on each side
__x=2.8

2. Use distributive property
__4x-20-8 divided by (-3) =12
Subtract 8 from 20, then divide that by (-3)
__4x-4=12
Add 4 to each side
__4x=16
Divide by 4
__x=4

multiply by 3.5 to get rid of parenthesis

3.5x - 3.5*8 = 3.5x - 28

3.5x/4 - 28/4=2.8

3.5x/4 - 7 = 2.8
add 7 leaving only the x term on the left side
what ever you do on the left you must do on the right side of = sign, so add +7
3.5x/4 = 2.8 + 7
3.5x/4 = 9.8

to remove denominator (4) multiply through by 4

3.5x = 9.8 * 4
3.5x = 39.2

to leave x standing alone divide by 3.5 on both sides

3.5x/3.5 = 39.2/3.5

s = 11.2

to check your answer plug 11.2 back into equation
