I recently got a top fin 10 for my 10 gallon aquarium and i was cleaning and when i finished i put it back together and put it on the tank and it wasnt sucking up the water and coming out it just made a sound and stays in the filter..

Add more water to the holding area of the filter. This will allow it to create the necessary vacuum more quickly.

Thats because you need to fill the filter in with water before starting it up. Its dry so it needs some help with water before it starts sucking up through the intake. Also possibly some bubbles hitting the intake fan.

the problem sounds like either your little propeller got busted or your motor got wet and went out i had a top fin 10 gallon pump too my propeller got all busted and bent when you look at the little propeller its a little blue ring ok thats what spins and makes the water suck up and come out the top of the pump so either your pump motor got wet and burned out or your little blue propeller got messed up my only advice is to throw away the entire pump and go down to your local pet store and buy another pump you can find top fin pumps at petsmart

my filter did that too,turn the filter on and put water in the filter.
