Should we have our turkey talk to the leader of Turkey to unruffle their feathers? After a conversation with President Bush they will be too confused to be angry.

They ended relations with France over the same issue. We are too important to them to repeat this action. They are awfully thin skinned over something that happened almost a hundred years ago. They have a million and a half dead Armenians in their closet.

Turkey did not exist at the time of the genocide.

The nation of Turkey was formed after a revolution in the 1920's. The genocide was by the Ottoman Empire, the government over thrown by revolutionaries who then established the nation of Turkey.

Anyone who voted for this resolution is ignorant of the facts. Democrats who voted for this resolution are ignorant of the facts and are hypocrites who should hold themselves accountable for ethnic atrocities like the political support of slavery.

The Ottoman Empire may have done this , but Turkey did not for it didn't exist then. Turkey is made up of three ethnic groups that don't like each other. Since its inception Turkey has struggled with internal rebellions while attempting to promote democracy. Now turkey is experiencing a brief period of internal peace and we are trying to give there Armenian population a reason to rebel again. Why are we doing this. This is stupid on a mega scale. An Islamic nation that is a democracy and an ally as well and we are upset over something that happened before they were a nation or a democracy. No one that witnessed the event is even alive today so what are we doing !!

It is not only the Armenians they have on their heads but the Chaldean Christians too.

Europe, not France alone, stood up to Turkey and effectually scotched any idea of Turkey's joining the EU until they cleaned up their human rights act and acknowledged publicly the genocide that was commited against the Armenians.

Good for Europe.

It made sense in the Cold War to be complacent with Turkey but it is ridiculous to keep up this kowtowing to Turkish ¨sensibilities¨ today.

I love Turkey: the cultures, history, its people, music and traditions. Once Thrace and later the Byzantine Empire after Rome divided.. I am comfortable traveling and exploring it. The scenery is beautiful beyond words and I never had a bad meal there.
I do think what happened in 1915 is no less shameful than what America did to the indigenous inhabitants for over 200 years. And BOTH are genocide and both heed to be viewed honestly. As in the individual and on to the societal scale we must own our dark sides and out consciences.
Bush fears losing Turkish military cooperation, bases and airspace. I hope they lock us out entirely.
Maybe we will have fewer wars on terra.

Only if our turkey can practice true diplomacy. Nothing will be solved if President Bush confuses them with his misunderstanding of the situation and his misuse of English words. I'm hoping they can arrange a sit-down around the last Thursday in November. Condi Rice should be invited, also, since diplomacy should be, but is not, her long suit.

I do not like Turkey. They are taking advantage of us.

They not only have commited genocide in the past, but they want to commit genocide against the Kurds in their own countyr, and in Iraq now to prevent a local Kurdish uprising and independence.

Turkey is planning MORE incursions into northern Iraq.

Allowed air passage or not, we must not allow Turkey to dictate our language, "Allie" in "war on terror" or not. Genocide is Genocide.

I do not know but I want what ever the Dem's are smoking to spend their time on this foolishness.. As a former Dem, I just shake my head in shame for ever being a Dem, and question if I was in a drug induced coma for thirty years, or can I plead temporary insanity for the last 30 years.

Our esteemed Congress is at it again - we apparently don't have enough REAL foreign and domestic issues presently facing this nation if they are so intent on resolutions about issues that are almost a century old.
It's a sad commentary.
