I am really confused about Iraq. From what I understand, the United States NEVER attacks anyone else. We "come-in" to help other governments. Help France in Vietnam. We return-fire after attacked. Hawaii. But we just do not attack anyone else. Especially when they are NO threat to the USA.

So what is with Iraq? And I thought to do ANY of the above, we had to get congress to legally approve these things. Did we ATTACK Iraq? Looks like it to me. Did congress approve legally of the attack. No one can seem to answer that! And what do we call what we are doing in Iraq? It is CERTAINLY NOT A WAR, a conflict, a police action. I call it an Invasion.
And how is the fighting in Iraq "protecting our freedom?" as tv and radio commericals like to say. I understand this is politics, but it just does not make any sense.

what is going on is establishing a permanent military base in the region to keep an eye on our oil and to head off the future threat of a strengthening china ... also the fact that its being drawn out benefits those that are profiting from it and i think that points to who is behind it as well ..

I don't know where you got the impression that the US never attacks anyone else, but you are sorely mistaken. This is where the CIA comes into play.

Iran 1953, Guatemala 1964, Chile 1973. The CIA is the only organization in the government that doesn't have to disclose its annual budget.

And yes congress approved the war in Iraq, I would say Iraq is the Arabic translation of Vietnam. The intent of this war is to boost the profits of oil corporations and the military industrial complex.

It's the only logical conclusion since all the other reasons Bush and his administration gave were lies.

The President is the "Commander in Chief" of all the military. He does not require Congressional approval to commit troops.

He needs Congress to fund it after 180 days. Congress has been funding it. That means they approve.

Originally, this was a war against the Government and their troops in Iraq.

The war is over. We are now stabilizing the country until the new Government can control it.

The Boneheads that claim this is for oil are only right in one sense; the thugs that are trying to take over the country from the legally elected Government are only interested in the oil and the control it will give them.

We're keeping them controlled until Iraq can do it themselves.

Navy 1969 - 1972 ( for one of the responders ) .
In Iraq, America has yet again betrayed itself the same way it did during the Vietnam war. Lies were told and people died. End of storey.

Well in fact it's simple, it is the same story for centuries. No country attacks on purpose. they are always dragged into war. both sides are using this every time. I'm Turk and in national history we're always innocent :) search french history, american, spanish, chinese, japanese national history; they are always "dragged into" war. so if you want to learn what's really going on in there read global news from different agencies. or if you wait a century for the history to settle down we might learn the real facts.

but i can give you some clues about it, cuz i'm in Turkey(for the ones who don't know we're nighbours with iraq) and i keep myself updated and open minded about iraq. i will not say "usa is bad" "go home yankee". no. usa is just another country which has great military and political power. so if no one can protest against it, usa will strike iraq. and maybe iran if it can.

sorry i am drifting; usa is there because of oil, (not just in iraq and in iran). everybody can say that there are terrorists but please, please, please with sugar on top terrorists are every where and don't tell me that usa is spending so much money and resources (both time and human resources) to clean out terrorists in iraq. and most of these terrorists have nothing but an ak47(kalashnikov).

there were no biological weapons saddam has nothing to do with 9/11. (my condolences on 9/11. i'm not protecting saddam everybody knows his doings but attacking iraq because of 9/11? oh come on) there is no sensible reason for usa but oil.

PS: for the ones who'll say "we have brought them democracy". let me ask you "who brought you democracy" because as far as i know rights are not given but taken. we (turkish people) have fought and acquire our democracy as any other country.

Not only is there an issue with congress, but France vetoed at the UN (said that America should NOT be allowed to invade Iraq). Bush did it anyway. Therefore, Bush = War Criminal.

who cares what france thinks they didnt want to go to war with iraq becuase they were too busy collecting oil contracts of saddam for not agreeing to attack.

Saddam viloated the cease fire agreement he signed at the end of the 1st gulf war on several occasions and violated all 12 of the UN resolutions that were written against him in the UN. The reason there were 12 was because they would write one and he would disregard it, so they would write another and so on and so on. How many does he have to violate before they get the idea he isnt going to adhear to them?

Seeing saddam violated the cease fire agreement and the resolutions he was the cause of the war.

I don't know what's happening in Iraq, either. No one does, to tell you the truth. We're just... over there.

Nobody can answer that question on here unless they have served in the military or have had some part in it. To understand something, you must experience it first.
