I want to start playing the electric guitar and i already have a trial lesson set up next week.
I just want to know if its hard and how long before i can start to read regular music and play whatever i want. If it helps, i have a knack for music and already know how to read notes, scales and everything because i play advance violin and electric violin.. any help would be appreciated.. thanks

Everything is easy once you know it. You have a leg up knowing music basics. But it's a totally different animal. Take your time, don't get frustrated. How long did it take you to become proficient at the violin? It all takes time and perseverance.

Electric guitar is essentially easier to play than acoustic guitar. The strings on an electric are closer to the fretboard which means they hurt less and are easier to play. Although, playing an acoustic guitar(steel string especially) first will help your fingers adapt to hardness of strings and build strength which will essentially make playing easier. If you plan on playing guitar very well an acoustic is definitely the way to go.

Nothing's easy... but things can turn easy if you're really passionate about whatever you're doing. Incidentally, guitar isn't super hard to learn... it's an easy instrument to play, but a difficult instrument to play WELL. But since you already have tons of experience in strings and in reading music, I think you'll pick it up pretty quickly.
Good luck!

Yeah I think its easy! I love guitar i have been playing for six years and i picked it up pretty fast. I think its easier than acustic guitar and more fun! It took me about a year to play whatever i wanted too. I read Tab more than I read music.

If you already play violin you should understand the concepts fairly quickly and already have some nice firm hand strength and endurance.

Is it easy? You can "get on the horse" fairly quickly but there is really no "maximum" level to get to. I've been playing 9 years and am always getting better.

being that you already play a string instrument, it should not take any time at all!
i play trumpet and can read notes and accents and stuff...and it didn't take but a good month for me to pick up basic guitar

My daughter, who plays cello, also can play guitar. She says the guitar is much easier than the cello.
