I shoot both. 35mm film imho looks better then digital more like an oil painting. Digital is cheaper and more convenient. I am shooting mostly B&W 35mm which imo looks way better then digital B&W. then again it depends on post processing and what not. Bottom line 35mm wins and there are only a few digital cameras out there that can compete with the image quality and one of them is about 30grand. This is true in most everything For instance. Compressed Audio (ipod) will never sound as good as a digital recording (compact disc) And A digital recording (cd) will never sound as good as a true analog recording (record). Technology advancments make things eaiser and faster but that does not mean it's better. It's takes time to balance the quality, speed, and convience thus there is a new digital camera out ever other day.

I bought a 35mm for my fiance. I bought it new in the box from Ebay. It was a $299 Canon I got for $100 incl. shipping.
The digital age is here, and most camera people, even long time film buffs will tell you to go digital. But with digital comes as much work as film. "Photoshop" is almost a requirement to refine your shots before printing. Cropping, shading and whatever else. This is all needed if you want to have really outstanding shots and not just take the memory card in and have them printed at your local drugstore developing center.
Alot of work goes into film as well. Making a dark room, the chemicals, etc. Plus, you dont know if you really like the shot until it is developed. And then, you may end up wasting film. Or you can again, take them to the camera shop or drug store. But I think some of these places only charge you for the pictures you like...
My fiance likes the idea of learning how to improve her picture taking skills, and watching her progress. I am sure you can do this with digital, but I think that somehow, that takes some of the skill out of it. Maybe not.
We rely so much on computers today, that some of the art is being lost in hobbies like this. While I think progress and technology is good, I long for some nostalgia now and then, and I think film cameras do this.
Good luck if you are considering buying.

I think I now prefer my digital camera....this past August was the first time I had used a 35mm in over a year...and that was only because I had no way of charging the battery on my digital! I think digital is the way to go.

I have both. The digital is far more versatile. I use it most. But for picture quality... I still prefer my 35mm film cameras, and for special occassions it's still the one I prefer to use. I also like the "mechanics" of having to set everything "by hand" and use my own skills and judgement as a photographer, instead of letting the camera do all the work and then editing out mistakes later on the computer.

I love my digital camera. I love that i can take as many photos as I like and delete any crummy ones - then print off just the ones i love.
However, saying that - any old photos taken on my 35mm - I have some beautiful ones - the clarity and colors always seem far better than the digital images.

I have a digital, which I'd much rather have than a 35 mm. So much more editing can be done to a digital picture, and I can take as many pics as I want without worrying about using up film. If I don't like a picture, it can easily be deleted from a digital.
