Sport...Al Capone..."Scarface" to the press (but never mentioned to his face unless you had a death wish...or "Snorky" to his friends (meaning "sharp dresser") didn't do anything to change the word. He changed the entire face of Chicago though and although he wasn't Mafioso because he was a Calabresian he was included in the national meetings held by Charlie Luciano and company because he was a force to be reckoned with in that end of the country.
I guess if you have to have an impact on the business world he controlled alot of breweries and distilleries that made 'needled' beer, which means cheap brew that had its alcohol content upped by the mixing of poor quality alcohol. Naturally it wasn't the same quality put out as the Terrible Genna Brothers who used wood alcohol in theirs and poisoned thousands with their lethal concoction.
Socially he was considered a "Robin Hood" to many of the citizens in Chicago because he opened soup kitchens and made donations to charitable agencies.
The French were fascinated by him and called him a well dressed and cultured 'gorilla' who killed for sport although he laughed at this and even boasted about it to friends. But world changing? I'm not quite sure I'd go that far. Although you've read his bio...read John Koebler's bio on him. The best written by far.
