There are two different laser heads and if you don't know this and know what to ask for then you are right there is a good chance that within a year or so it will grow back. The one you want is a diamond head and that is the permenant one. It is costly and you have to go 5-6 times. But baby it is worth it!

But it depends on the coursness, density of your hair as to rather what kind of results you are going to get. Say you have super dense hair and it is really black and is really course then most likely what the laser will do is cause it to grow really thin, and blonde, whispy like.

Or if you have scarce and not so course hair it can be completely removed and maybe one or two hairs too return but still then will return a great deal lighter than before.

Just be careful as to who you use and do your research on the phone with the people you want to do it with. Go in a talk to them as well. Don't make a decision until you talk to several different places.

Good luck.

first...it is not actually surgery. i have it done at my dermatologist. it is not cheap. i have my face and stomach done for $600 per session. And probably have about $3000 involved in it since 1997. my doctor recently switch to a new IPL machine which self adjusts itself based on you, your hair and your reactions.

total procedure start to finish for me is that I be sure that I don't have make-up on, you have the option of numbing cream, which I don't use because I have had allergic reaction to it. they turn machine on, cover your eyes with those shades like you use at tanning salons so the laser doesn't burn your eyes, then they calibrate for your skin/hair color, then they usually go in a grid pattern with a laser want about the size of a dollar coin zapping your skin. it feels like a rubber band snapping on your wrist. my skin turns red for a bit and then with ice pack for half hour goes back to normal. then you must wait for the laser burned hair to grow out.

things to be aware of: hair grows in multiple cycles so you may need anywhere from 3 - 10 treatments. It has been long process for me but so worth it.]

as far as who to go to.....one word, dermatologist. if you have any skin reaction they will know what to do.
