I've so far tried St. Johns wart, 5-htp, kava, sam -e, valerian root, and gaba...not all at the same time, of course, but taken as directed. None of these have helped me much in calming my nerves. Is there anything else I can try? Please help!

Thanks so much!

Did you have a blood test done to make sure your Thyroid glands are functioning properly?

Maybe you need to seek therapy, cognitive therapy helps you better understand the different facets of depression (if taking group therapy), you help each other cope and can openly discuss because it is private sessions and usually stay with the same group for so many sessions to work through different scenarios, figure out what type of person you are, for instance do you keep to yourself are you outgoing and so forth.

Its hard work I went through it I did take medication prescribed by my GP that did not agree with me at all and ended up in hospital. I am recovered thanks to the doctor that was assigned while hospitalized, I still see him although not as much now. You need to see specialists in the field and there are usually a crisis unit that can help.

Good luck I heard that natural products are only effective for a few months maybe you can rotate them I don't know but if they don't help, why take them.

Have you tried journaling your thoughts and then analyze (not right away) what you wrote. Writing things down, keeping a journal is very therapeutic.

St Johns Wort is over-hyped and the medical research shows it causing anxiety just as often as it cures it. Stay away!

There are 3 things you can try which are natural supplements but which have clinical research studies to prove they work. See the links below for the medical evidence and exact instructions on how to take them.

The three things you should try are inositol, folic acid and fish oil (omega-3s). For anxiety and panic inositol is best.

I do believe that a daily dose of exercise even 1/2 hour a day, a walk, bike, or just stretching does miracles.

And of course, make love! It is the one that heals all.

But of course if not love, have at least sex. You will heal most of your worries. For the healing of the soul, stay till morning and have a cup of tee.

Try exercise and Meditation.

Sounds like you already are working on the nutritional side of fighting anxiety, but that is only one of the pillars.

Continue with the herbs that work best for you, eat well and get out walking on a daily basis then either start or end your day with Meditation. Works wonders.

I find exercise works pretty well for me when I am anxious or depressed. I don't have serious problems, thank goodness, but everyone is anxious or depressed sometimes, so when I am I go for a long walk. It's better than drugs, in fact it's good for you anyway. I read about a study somewhere that showed that exercise works as well as Prozac! Worth a try anyway.

try making tea out of san pedro. slice up the cactus and simmer it in water for 18 hours or so until the liquid becomes dark green/brownish. this creates a more receptive, pleasant outlook and is quite enlightening if you make a mellow batch. it is not hallucinogenic but rather psychedelic. try it with an open mind and dont underestimate a little juice

An occasional drink will soothe your nerves, help you to relax and calm you down temporarily but that, of course, should only be an occasional escape from the real world. Don't overdo it and don't do it too often or you will have more depression and anxiety than ever.

I was taking kava kava extract (diluted in water when needed and took a bit more than advised) - it didn't take my anxiety attacks away right away but after a few days they got better and after two weeks disappeared almost at all.
