Your sewer is stopped up. Run some Drano through all the drains and toilets. If that doesn't work you will need to make sure you don't have a problem with the sewer vent pipe.

I used to have a problem where, when I closed all the windows and doors to my bedroom with an adjacent master bathroom, I would get a sewery smell and couldn't figure out where it was coming from.

The house was built in 1946 and I bought it in 2003. The guy I bought it from had done some remodeling and said he replaced the plumbing in a few areas.

Last year, I had the house gutted and completely rebuilt from the studs in. When the plumber came out to remove the old plumbing and sewer lines, he discovered an old iron plumbing vent in the bathroom wall that had disintegrated. This was the cause of the smell, as the sewer gasses would escape into the wall cavity and permeate the bathroom wall.

You might have the same or similar problem.

This is likely caused by a (plumbing) "venting" problem. If your venting stack is plugged (or non existent) any water flow in the drains will cause suction on other drains such that it will empty some of the traps. If this happens you are exposed to sewer smells. Check to see if some drains are dry. If they are check your venting. The main vent will go through the roof where you can see it.

Take a good look around the base of the toilet, particularly if there are males in the house. Would also be good to check the vents and sink traps.

mice or rats in your walls? the droppings... or maybe you have a dead critter in one of your walls or in the chimney flu - if you have one of course.
the only other thing i could possibly think of would be rotting wood... if your house is old and there is a lead somewhere and the wood is rotting and moldy it might smell.

do you have a moisture barrier in your crawl space, or could be sewer smell, have a plumber check it out, if he can't find it, you might ask him about doing a smoke test
