i want to be able to read with knowing what will happen

The Great Gatsby is pretty much word for word.

The closest you can get is with movies based on classics. Pride and Prejudice, Shakespeare (although that's not really a book) and many others.
Any of the new ones made for teens basically wreak havoc with the plot. If you aren't a classics kind of guy, I would recommend the Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe. The very first scene and one other scene (crossing the river) were added, and there are a couple minor characters that weren't in the books, but other than that, it's really close to the story.

the sisterhood of the traveling pants movie stuck really close to the book. only one or 2 minor things are different. also pride and prejudice the new movie with keira knigtly in it was pretty true to the book

My sister says that if you watch "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," you won't have to read the book.
