I'm downloading Videos off of Veoh, (Videos that have copyright etc.) and I am making them into DVD's. I'm not going to distribute them/do public viewing etc. These videos are like the Naruto movies. I'm putting them on DVD to watch them later and stuff. Not to profit, but for like plane trips and stuff. Is this legal?

as long as you don't sell them, i don't think there is anything wrong with it.

The act of downloading by itself is not illegal. Just be sure you are not uploading as you are downloading. Most P2P programmes automatically upload as you are downloading.

Television shows that have been broadcast, usually shouldn't create a problem if they are shared. There isn't much difference in downloading a television show and recording it from the broadcast (which is totally legal).

Naturally selling or publically distributing is still infringement though..

Does Veoh have the copyright holders permission to distribute the videos? If they do, you are clear. If they don't, DOWNLOADING is illegal.

Mayeb it would be Fair USE IMHO if yo already owned copies of them.

But since the ones you are copying from are of dubious provenance, and you know it, then you can't make legal copies of illegal copies.

Otherwise, only the first copy wouldl be illegal, and no one has ever told you that, have they? :)

no it's not legal but if you're just making them for personal use, then how are you gonna get caught unless you announce it to the world on some forum like Yahoo Answers for instance, but come on, who would do something like that?

I don't think there is a legal issue in your case since you are downloading it for your personal use.

YES, but the FBI is too busy with bigger fish. Plus, they wouldn't sue you in civil court b/c your not making money.
