Before we were married I always used "benchmarks". I always thought to myself "okay if we make it past this point" or "if she understands and accepts this" or "if she's willing to do this and try that" THEN we can get married. Pretty soon I ran out of reasons NOT to marry her and couldn't imagine my life with anybody else. We were too much a part of each other. Hell yeah I was nervous and scared, but don't we all feel like that while in line for the most exciting rollercoaster we've ever been on?

I can't say how we knew we were meant to be together, we just did. We were both in mid 20's, had both been in relationships before (I was widowed 3 yrs earlier). We both knew what we wanted and realized when we had found it. We had only been dating 5 weeks when she proposed to me. We had our "spiritual commitment" to each other 2 days later on the beach at sunrise with our friends and flowers and a jug of Ripple wine. (this was 1966) We followed that with a formal legal wedding a couple of months later. We were sure. We never had a doubt, tho our families sure did. LOL That was 41 wonderful (mostly) yrs ago.

When we first made eye contact, I was pretty sure. We had a deep connection.
