another website told me if the hazzard switch is on top of steering column then there is a tendency for dirt to build up over time-soak it with wd-40 usually works--guess what-IT WORKED!!--i had to scrape the contact with my pocket knife a little but it saved me a lot of money

Sounds like a bad fuse. Check your fuse panels. One is usually under the hood and there is often another on the drivers side either in the footwell or on the inside of the dash. (The door usually needs to be open to see it.

Sounds light a bad turn signal switch. Wiring gets complicated here. And tiny parts wear out. Yes the turn signals can operate properly and still have a bad switch. It could also be a wire has backed out of its retainer.
Scrutinize the wiring and wiggle the stalk switch to prove the problem.

This will be a dealer problem if your not lucky.

Possible fuse bad,broken wire or light bulb bad also a short in a wire.
