9/x-5-1=8/x+5
I think this is meant to be written as:
9/(x-5)-1=8/(x+5)
So you must multiply by both denominators
This is (x^2-25)
So, 9 (x^2-25)/ (x-5) - 1(x^2-25) = 8 (x^2-25)/(x+5)
This is 9(x+5) - (x^2-25) = 8 (x-5)
Simplifying 9x +45 - x^2 +25 = 8x - 40
Some more x + 85 - x^2 +25 = 0
X^2 -x -110 = 0
if it is as written then it is quite easy
Simplify 9/x -6 = 8/x + 5
1/x =11
x = 1/11

9/x - 5 - 1 = 8/x + 5
9/x - 8/x = 5 + 5 + 1
1/x = 11
x = 1/11
Answer: x = 1/11
Proof (plug x with 1/11 and prove equality of both sides of the original equation):
(9/[1/11]) - 5 - 1 = (8/[1/11]) + 5
(9 * 11) - 6 = (8 * 11) + 5
99 - 6 = 88 + 5
93 = 93
